£12m-rated Tottenham flop Vincent Janssen is not the striker Wolves need to compete with Raul Jimenez

Wolverhampton Wanderers are having a successful first season back in the Premier League and are well positioned to launch a promotion push.

But one problem still remains: who is their long-term striker?

Raul Jimenez is only on loan and there are no guarantees that his deal will be made permanent. But even if Jimenez stays, Wolves need a striker who can compete with him.

The Mexico international has six goals and five assists in 23 Premier League matches but there is no pressure on his place in the team.

Leo Bonatini has struggled to provide adequate back-up and another striker is needed.

Despite being a disastrous flop at Tottenham Hotspur, the North London outfit are still demanding £12m for him.

Janssen completed a move to Tottenham from AZ in summer 2016 but has only scored six goals for the club since then.

Last season, he managed five goals in 18 games at Fenerbahce and he has not played a single game for Spurs this season.

Mauricio Pochettino wants the Netherlands international sold with Wolves, Burnley and Real Betis in the hunt for his services, .

But signing Janssen for £12m would be a major risk for Wolves and could prove to be a waste of money.

The 24-year-old’s lack of success in England, coupled with his recent lack of playing time, means Wolves should avoid this move.
