£12m Liverpool star hands Newcastle and West Ham, says he wants to leave Anfield
Nat Phillips has told S that he is open to leaving Liverpool in the January window, and is ready to go “somewhere else”. Newcastle and West Ham have been linked with the English defender.
Phillips, 24, broke into the Liverpool side last season and ended up playing 20 times in all competitions. His form was excellent, and came at a crucial time with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and others injured.
But van Dijk and Gomez have returned, while Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate are also ahead of Phillips. He has been afforded just three senior outings this season, as he remains the club’s fifth-choice defender.
Phillips signed a new contract in the summer until June 2025. Liverpool would be willing to sell Phillips for £12million – and Newcastle and West Ham are both said to be interested in landing him.
that Newcastle’s new owners are interested in the ex-Bolton man, while say West Ham’s injuries at centre-back have seen them throw their hat into the ring for Phillips.

The defender said: “I want to be playing games. The manager and I agree that the best thing for me is to play as many games as possible. I’m going to see what comes along [in January].
“It’s unlikely that I’ll be playing lots of games for Liverpool. If an opportunity arises where I get the chance to do that somewhere else and it suits everyone then it’s certainly something I’d be interested in.”
Liverpool star Phillips on future: Newcastle or West Ham for centre-back?
Well, West Ham are probably more in need of one right now. The Hammers remain in the Carabao Cup and Europa League. They are pushing for the top four, and are about to start their FA Cup campaign.
So, with Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna injured, they need another option at centre-back. But Newcastle need quality all over the pitch and Phillips no-nonsense style is ideal for a relegation scrap. Both sides need him.
