12 games, 8 goals: former Tottenham target Ciro Immobile shows what Spurs are missing

Over the summer, the reported Tottenham Hotspur were interested in luring Lazio striker Ciro Immobile to north London — yet the deal never materialised and the striker extended his contract in Rome this October.

Immobile has started the campaign with a flourish, scoring eight goals in 12 league appearances and showing that Spurs missed out on a top attacking talent.

The 28-year-old has been in fine form in Serie A, bagging crucial goals against the likes of Roma, Napoli, and Fiorentina thus far. And in the Europa League, Immobile has contributed one goal and four assists in just four appearances.

Tottenham, on the other hand, still remain heavily dependent on the goals of Harry Kane and still are searching for a quality strike partner or back-up. With six Premier League goals and four Champions League strikes, Kane is far from out of form, yet has looked fatigued at times following his World Cup exploits.

Spurs would have loved to have acquired the services of a lethal finisher such as Ciro Immobile this summer, but the Italian striker slipped their grasp and his goalscoring form is revealing exactly why he was so highly-coveted.
