£10m Everton target now in advanced talks to join Ipswich

Ipswich are now close to making a seventh signing of the summer transfer window – at the expense of Everton.

Kieran McKenna has already lured Liam Delap, Omari Hutchinson, Ben Johnson, Conor Townsend, Jacob Greaves and Arijanet Muric to Portman Road on permanent deals.

Now, Ipswich are close to signing an Everton target on loan…

Ipswich in advanced talks with Napoli to sign Everton target Jens Cajuste

Gianluca Di Marzio now states that Ipswich are holding advanced talks with Napoli over a deal to sign Jens Cajuste on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

The story has been backed up by the too, who add that the Sweden international is also a target for Everton this summer.

It is said that Ipswich are negotiating to sign Cajuste on what is typically described as a dry loan – meaning no option or obligation to buy the Swede on a permanent deal next summer will be included.

The Napoli No.24 moved from Reims to Naples back in August 2023 for a sum of (£10m) – but only made 11 starts in Serie A as the Italian giants finished tenth, in what was a feeble defence of their league title.

Now, Cajuste – aged 25 – is close to starting afresh at Ipswich, just days after the defensive midfielder saw a £10m move to Brentford collapse.

Sean Dyche could turn to player Kieran McKenna also considered

A story from the claimed just a matter of days ago that Manchester City No.4 Kalvin Phillips is on both Ipswich and Everton’s radar.

That was also mentioned in the aforementioned story from the East Anglian Daily Times.

Therefore, with Cajuste now close to rejecting Everton and signing for Ipswich instead, it is possible that Sean Dyche explores a move for Phillips, who the Manchester Evening News state is available on either a loan or a permanent deal.

The England international has endured a miserable time under Pep Guardiola, and also failed to shine during a loan spell at West Ham last season.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Mike Dean even said that Phillips was “wasting his time playing” for West Ham, adding that the Yorkshireman did not look interested whatsoever during his time in east London.

Now – however – Everton could offer the £42m man a chance to start afresh, as Cajuste seems to be on his way to Ipswich.
