£100m star is ready to walk to Liverpool to seal his dream move this summer

After their initial frustration in pursuit of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, Liverpool might actually land one of Eddie Howe’s other star players this summer.

Right now, Bayern Munich are trying to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool, a situation TBR Football are keeping abreast of.

Liverpool are ready to sell a host of attacking players this summer, and the likes of Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa could all still leave.

Despite Liverpool signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, it’s understood that Arne Slot could still make two more significant additions up top.

And if everything aligns, the Reds might make a late play to steal Anthony Gordon from St James’ Park.

Liverpool could make a late move for Anthony Gordon if they sell Luis Diaz

That being said, chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has now provided an update on Liverpool’s interest in Gordon.

Despite making 78 appearances for rivals Everton in the past, Gordon is a Liverpool fan.

And although the winger is by no means unhappy under Howe in the North East, he would jump at the chance to sign for Slot’s team this summer, should an offer be made.

Explaining the situation, Bailey said: “So there’s a few dominoes to fall here, but Anthony Gordon and Liverpool might be one that comes back on the agenda.

“If Diaz goes, I wouldn’t rule Gordon out. I think if Diaz — the left-sided player — goes, Liverpool will bring someone in.

“Obviously, we know they’ve talked to Rodrygo, but Gordon is very much in that conversation for them.

“We know he’s a player they’ve talked about signing before. We know his club is Liverpool after they emerged as an option when he left Everton. So Gordon is a very interesting one.”

Anthony Gordon dreams of playing for Liverpool

In terms of Gordon’s own preference towards his future, Bailey made it very clear that the England international would love to play week in, week out at Anfield.

And in actual fact, the prospect of Gordon wearing red one day was described as ‘inevitable’ by TBR Football’s chief correspondent.

He continued: “I’m not for one minute saying he’s unhappy at Newcastle, but he didn’t end the season on a high. He was battling and got dropped at times.

“Gordon would walk to Liverpool — it’s his hometown club. He loves them. He wants to play for them.

“I think it’s inevitable Gordon will join Liverpool at some point — whether it’s this summer, next, or the year after. But I think he will end up at Anfield at some point.

An excellent talent, and it’s previously been reported that Newcastle would want for Gordon.

And therefore Richard Hughes might need to continue the club’s big spending to land the 24-year-old.
