10 tackles, 5 clearances and 2 interceptions, Spurs star was superb against Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier continues to go from strength to strength following a summer of speculation over his future.

With Matt Doherty having joined Tottenham, it appeared as though Aurier’s days at the club were numbered, from AC Milan suggesting he could’ve been on the move.

The Ivory Coast international finished the 2020-21 campaign as the only senior recognised player at right-back for Spurs, but inconsistency and errors affected some of his displays.

However, a combination of increased competition for places, Jose Mourinho’s coaching and Aurier’s hard work have all culminated in the 27-year-old turning his career around.

He has made 11 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this term, including seven in the Premier League and the full 90 minutes in Spurs’ last five top-flight games.

Despite the title hopefuls’ defeat at Liverpool on Wednesday night, Aurier was one of his side’s better players on the night, his 7.2 rating on beaten only by Son Heung-min in terms of Spurs ratings.

Aurier put in a solid and disciplined defensive display against two of the division’s most threatening left-sided players in Sadio Mane and Andrew Robertson and did a great job in keeping them at bay.

His 61 touches of the ball were the highest amount in the Spurs camp, plus he made 10 tackles, five clearances and two interceptions, as well as blocking one shot, while on the attacking front he delivered two crosses and one accurate long ball.

Aurier staying put at Tottenham was a great decision and there’s surely plenty more to come from the £23million man.
